The United States Mint is preparing to debut its Comic Art Coin and Medal Program in 2025, following a licensing agreement with DC Comics, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. This exciting new series will feature beloved superheroes depicted on 1/2-ounce 24K gold $50 coins, 2-1/2-ounce and 1-ounce silver medals, and 1.2-inch clad medals.
2025 $50 Batman Gold Coin Design Recommendations
The proposed designs for the 2025 $50 Batman Gold Coin are shown above. The first year of this series will highlight three iconic DC superheroes: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. While Superman’s designs have already been recommended, both the Batman and Wonder Woman designs were presented to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) on November 19, and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) on November 21.
This article focuses on the recommended designs for the Batman coins and medals from the CCAC and CFA.
CCAC & CFA Recommendations for the Batman Coin and Medals
After deliberations, both the CCAC and CFA have selected the same pair of Batman designs—O-02 and R-02—shown in the images above. The U.S. Mint collaborated closely with Warner Bros. Discovery throughout the design process, and both the Mint and the licensing partners favored these specific designs.
Below are images of all proposed designs for the 2025 Batman coin and medals, as shared by the U.S. Mint.

Program Overview, Limits, and Expectations for the Future
Over the course of three years, the Comic Art Coin and Medal Program will feature three DC characters per year, resulting in a total of nine designs. Each year’s superhero designs will be produced in both gold and silver, with clad medals potentially released in the following year. All pieces in the series are expected to feature a proof finish.
No mintage or sales time limits are expected for the 1-ounce silver medals and clad medals. However, the 1/2-ounce gold coins and 2.5-ounce silver medals will be serialized, with production limits in place and availability restricted to one year. Additionally, the clad medals will likely be offered as sets of three rather than individually.
The U.S. Mint has also been in talks with Marvel to explore the possibility of expanding the Comic Art Program to include coins and medals featuring Marvel superheroes.
