Heritage Auctions is set to host one of its largest and most exciting events yet, with its U.S. Coins Signature® Auction taking place from November 20-24. Featuring a stunning array of rare U.S. coins from distinguished collections and over 140 individual consignors, this auction promises to appeal to collectors of all interests.
Todd Imhof, Executive Vice President at Heritage Auctions, notes, “This auction is poised to captivate a diverse audience, with offerings ranging from early dollars to Seated and Trade dollars, plus Shield and Liberty nickel patterns and proofs. An impressive selection of early copper and U.S. gold from all series makes this a must-attend event for coin collectors.”
A highlight of the auction is the Greensboro Collection, Part XI, which includes 71 lots. This collection, which first appeared at Heritage’s 2012 ANA National Money Show, features remarkable pieces such as high-quality Flying Eagle cents, Indian Head cents, and Buffalo nickels, with most coins being proofs in grades ranging from PR65 to PR69. Many of these coins have received recognition from CAC for their outstanding quality. Notable items from this collection include an 1856 Flying Eagle Cent, PR67+ PCGS CAC, one of the finest examples of this key date, which was initially struck for distribution to congressmen.
Another standout from the Greensboro Collection is a 1927 Buffalo Nickel, SP65 PCGS CAC. It is one of only six known specimen strikes of this coin, with this example being the highest-graded among them.
The auction also features rarities from the Ronald Firman Rarities Collection, including a 1797 Reverse of 1797 Cent, MS66 Red and Brown PCGS, which is the finest known of its variety. Additionally, a 1793 S-3 Chain Cent, XF45 NGC CAC, will also be available, representing one of the earliest U.S. copper coins struck for circulation at the Philadelphia Mint.
Alongside these exceptional collections, the auction will offer some of the most coveted coins in American numismatics. Highlights include an 1870-CC Liberty Double Eagle, AU Details NGC, which is considered the rarest coin in the Type Two Double Eagle series. There’s also an 1855 Double Eagle, Fully Struck MS63+ PCGS CAC, one of only two in this grade, and a 1799 Irregular Date Dollar, MS62 PCGS, which is one of only five Mint State examples of its variety.
Other notable coins include an 1879 Flowing Hair Stella, PR63 Cameo NGC CAC, a popular pattern coin, and a 1931 Double Eagle, MS64+ PCGS, one of the finest examples of this scarce late-date Saint-Gaudens double eagle.
With such a diverse and prestigious range of offerings, this auction is sure to attract significant attention from collectors around the world. More information about the auction and detailed images of each lot can be found at HA.com/1378.
